Hazardous goods storage
Storage for substances posing particular risks to people, environment or fire safety.
Hazardous goods storage is governed by rules including TRGS 510 and, depending on quantities, emission control law. Separate sections, suitable floors, containment volume, ventilation and fire protection are required. Requirements depend heavily on substance class and quantity.
Legal framework
TRGS 510 governs the storage of hazardous substances in mobile containers, including segregation rules, quantity thresholds and structural requirements. Water law under the AwSV, the Industrial Building Directive and possibly immission control law also apply. Above certain quantities, a site falls under the Major Accidents Ordinance with additional duties.
Relevance for the property
Hazardous storage permits are a value factor because they are rare and save long approval processes. At the same time, they require ongoing maintenance, inspection and documentation. For owners, it matters whether the permit attaches to the site or to the previous operator.
