Submarket of the logistics region Rhine-Neckar

Mannheim / Ludwigshafen

Where the Rhine and Neckar meet, the ports of Mannheim and Ludwigshafen form one of Europe's largest inland port locations. Chemicals, industry and retail use ship, rail and motorway side by side.

Location and access

The ports lie on both banks of the Rhine at the centre of the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. The A6, A61, A650 and A656 link the submarket with Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, Kaiserslautern and Heilbronn. The Mannheim marshalling yard is one of the major nodes of German rail freight.

Space profile

The port has handling and storage buildings of various generations, tank farms and container logistics land. New logistics space mainly comes from converting port and industrial land, and outside the ports in Frankenthal, Worms and along the A6.

What occupiers should consider

Port land is often tied to waterside use. For hazardous goods storage, permits and separation rules are decisive. Anyone planning trimodal operations should clarify terminal capacity early.
