Loading and yard
Loading dock
A loading point at truck bed height where vehicles dock directly.
Dock doors sit roughly at the height of the truck bed, so forklifts load and unload without a level difference. They are the standard for semi-trailers and swap bodies and are equipped with dock levellers, dock shelters and bumpers.
Dock door specification
A complete dock position comprises a sectional door, hydraulic dock leveller, dock shelter, bumpers, wheel guides and external lighting. Traffic lights, wheel chocks or docking aids are often added. If any of these is missing, safety and throughput suffer.
Planning and valuation
Dock height is usually around 1.20 m above yard level, matched to semi-trailers and swap bodies. Vans and vehicles with low beds need lift tables, level access doors or a leveller with a larger range. In valuation, the number, distribution and condition of the doors count, because they limit possible throughput.
