Loading and yard
Dock leveller
The movable platform bridging the gap between dock and vehicle.
Dock levellers compensate for height differences and gaps between floor and truck bed. Hydraulic levellers with telescopic or hinged lips are common. Their capacity must match forklifts and loads.
Hinged and telescopic lip levellers
Hinged lip levellers place a fixed lip on the truck bed and suit standard vehicles. Telescopic levellers extend a lip continuously and also bridge larger gaps, for example with rear-door or refrigerated vehicles. Rated capacity is usually 6 t, higher for heavy loads.
Inspection duties
Dock levellers are work equipment under German occupational safety rules and must be inspected regularly by a competent person. Missing inspections are a frequent defect at handover. The lease should clearly state who bears maintenance, inspection and replacement.
