Grid connection
The electrical capacity a site can draw from the grid.
Automation, cooling and electric truck charging sharply increase power demand. The available connection capacity and the time needed to increase it are becoming a location factor. Upgrades can take a long time depending on the network operator.
Grid levels and capacity
Smaller buildings are supplied from the low-voltage grid, larger sites through their own transformer station from the medium-voltage grid. Contracted capacity is stated in kVA or kW. For an increase, the grid operator checks capacity in the upstream network, which can take years where substations are congested.
Costs and contract
For new or increased connections, grid operators charge construction cost contributions and connection costs. When leasing, it should be recorded what capacity is available, who owns the transformer and medium-voltage equipment and who pays for expansion. In valuation, a secured and expandable connection is gaining weight.
- Standard warehouse
- often a few hundred kVA
- Automation, cooling, e-trucks
- quickly several MVA
