Submarket of the logistics region Hamburg
Hamburg South: Harburg and Seevetal
South of the Elbe lies the second major logistics submarket of the Hamburg metropolitan region. Harburg, Seevetal and Winsen combine proximity to the port with more available land in Lower Saxony. Maschen is home to Europe's largest marshalling yard.
Location and access
The A1 and A7 meet south of Hamburg, the A39 runs to Lüneburg and the A261 links both corridors. The Elbe bridges and tunnel lead into the port and the city. The Maschen marshalling yard handles a large share of freight trains to and from the Port of Hamburg.
Space profile
Large distribution centres have emerged around Maschen, Hittfeld and Winsen. In Harburg, port, industrial and established business land dominates. The Harburg district offers more room for new development than the city of Hamburg, but space is in demand here too.
What occupiers should consider
Travel times across the Elbe crossings are hard to predict at peak hours. Anyone driving into the port daily should check the location relative to the bridges carefully. For rail traffic, proximity to Maschen and the intermodal terminals pays off.
