Uses and logistics models
Returns logistics
Receiving, inspecting and refurbishing returned goods.
Returns need inspection workstations, space for sorting and refurbishment and, for electronics, special fire protection for damaged batteries.
Process
Returns are received, identified, inspected, sorted and either restocked, refurbished, recycled or disposed of. Inspection determines the value of the goods and is labour-intensive. Return rates in online retail can be very high depending on the range.
Property
Returns logistics needs workstations with daylight, buffer areas for unsorted goods and, for electronics, an incident area. It is often operated in separate buildings or compartments so as not to disrupt the main process.
