Building and structure
Precast concrete construction
A structure of factory-made reinforced concrete columns, girders and wall elements.
Precast construction is the standard in German logistics building. Columns, girders and fire walls are produced in the factory and assembled on site, which allows short construction times and high dimensional accuracy. Concrete inherently offers high fire resistance, which simplifies fire protection.
Construction sequence
Foundations and sockets are made on site, while columns, girders and wall panels arrive by heavy transport and are lifted into place by cranes. Roofing, facade and floor slab follow. A building of several tens of thousands of square metres can thus reach shell completion within a few months.
Sustainability
Concrete causes high embodied emissions. Manufacturers reduce them through low-clinker cements, recycled aggregates and optimised cross-sections. Timber-hybrid solutions with glulam girders on concrete columns are a common alternative.
