Uses and logistics models
Regional warehouse
A warehouse serving a defined delivery area.
Regional warehouses shorten delivery times and relieve the central warehouse. They are smaller and closer to conurbations, balancing higher land costs with shorter routes.
Role
Regional warehouses supply a delivery area with short lead times, such as a metropolitan region or a federal state. They hold fast-moving items and are replenished from the central warehouse. In food retail they are often multi-temperature.
Property
Regional warehouses are smaller than central warehouses and closer to the market, where land is scarcer and more expensive. Rents per square metre are correspondingly higher, offset by shorter transport distances.
